Pulau Pisang: The Jaguh Kampung Mentality Rears Its Ugly Head

Pontian MP, Ahmad Maslan announced yesterday that Malaysia is reasserting its sovereignty over Pulau Pisang symbolically by constructing a surau on the 446 acre island.

This is in order to prevent any claim or challange from Singapore that operates the lighthouse on the island taht lies in the straits of Malacca.

The plain stupidity of the MP is reflected by the fact that he himself acknowledges that the lighthouse is being operated by Singapore pursuant to a treaty enetred into in 1990.

If this be the case how does the building of a surau enhance Malaysia's sovereignty?

Or is it that Ahmad Maslan wishes the kampong folk and poor fisherman who may occassionally use the surau to believe that if not for the heroic efforts of this wira kampong, Siingapore, by some unknown sleight of hand would eventually gain surreptious sovereignty over the desolate island?

How stupid !!!
